“The Mission of The ManKind Project USA is to create a world where men act on their individual and collective responsibility for the future of humanity by initiating and supporting men on a path of emotional maturity, spiritual awareness and deepening community.”

Summer Greetings!

I’m reaching out this month to talk about engagement and membership – part of what’s needed from all of us to ensure that this work, and its continued impact, is available for the generations to come.

Engagement is fundamentally about building connection, building relationship. Engagement in MKP is about developing and fostering relationships to keep men connected (with each other, with the organization). Let’s consider effective engagement, therefore, as building relationship in a way that helps men become involved in a way that works for them. I recently wrote about call to mission (link to article?) with the idea that your involvement with (and engagement in) MKP should be in a way that serves your mission. Don’t you agree? Indulge me for a few moments to unpack the other side…

From the national level all the way down to the community in which you live and participate – the concept of engagement is a constant hot topic. Do our offerings at the different levels – trainings, leadership development, I-Group, community events, etc. – keep you engaged? I suspect the answer is – it depends. So does that mean there’s room for improvement? You bet. Can you relate to that same “some of it’s great, some of it doesn’t quite fit” scenario in other parts of your life? I suspect so. And if you’re reading this – are you still choosing to be engaged in MKP in some way, regardless? I believe you are. And so, while my continued encouragement is… engage in a manner that feeds you.., my request of you right now is for you to consider this different way of engaging that feeds the broader mission.

Membership. Not the “I went through the NWTA and I am a New Warrior” kind – that’s an absolute given! You’ll always be part of your I-group and any other parts of MKP you engage in – by your choice. Membership is about engaging in a different way – simply, contributing financially to help sustain the organization work toward realizing its mission. And while that’s all about money – it’s also about more than just money. And that “more than money” can be described in a thousand ways. What’s yours? I support the mission of this organization – it is critically important to me – and I’m willing to contribute some of my means to help make its mission a reality. I also give of my time through staffing, through organizational leadership, and through participating in I-Group, mentoring, and connecting with men. In however that looks for you – I stand next to you, shoulder to shoulder, as we help to create that brighter future for our world.

So my request of you this month, in consideration of your engagement, is this: Are you a member? If so, thank you. Your support is crucial. If not – are you willing to be? The next men to follow this path – and our children – need our support. This is one way you can literally “Pay It Forward!” MKP has set the minimum membership fee as little as $1 per year. The suggested donation for membership to help sustain the organization is $10-20 a month. All is welcome – all is needed. In fact – this is so important that the organization is wisely investing some of its money to raise awareness about this kind of engagement. Do you have some experience in reaching out to men to engage with them and build relationship? That’s the desired result – membership is an added bonus. Click on this link or reach out to leadership in your community or the Northwest Area if you are interested in and willing to join the MKP USA Membership & Engagement team in this way. We’ll reach out about it more soon.

And so in closing… “If you are planning for one year, grow rice. If you are planning for 20 years, grow trees. If you are planning for generations, grow men.” (Adapted from a Chinese Proverb)

It’s so appropriate. In supporting the mission of MKP, we create space for men to grow up… so they can show up… and be present in their lives. Thank you for your dedication to growth, and for your engagement!

In service,

What is my calling to engage in mission?

June 27, 2016

What is my calling to engage in mission? A perspective from the desk of the NW Area Steward… Greetings Men of the Northwest, I’m grateful to know many of you, and the rest of you perhaps we’ll someday meet. It never ceases to amaze me how this brotherhood has created connections in every corner of […]
